Anupama Sanghani was born in 1934 in India. Born in a wealthy family, she spent her childhood in Karachi, now a part of Pakistan. Both her parents helped in India's struggle for freedom. In her early years, she spent time with Gandhiji and those interactions have had a deep impact on the way she has lived her life. While being a housewife and a mother of three, she remained actively engaged in social service. She was the Chairperson of the Innerwheel District comprising Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Winning many accolades and helping those in need, she always strived to maintain her values. Frequently called in by All in Radio to speak on various subjects, she has been known for her oratary skills. Her articles have appeared in various publications and magazines.

During a life threatening illness, she made a resolution to write her life's simple but enriching experiences. Thus was born Mahek, a book containing her thoughts on how everyday lives can be uplifted and enriched.
